A Tribute to Brandon

There's no doubt that I have loved every pet I have ever had in my life. But there is usually one who stands out above all. For me, it's a little red pekingese named Brandon. Maybe he's special because I had him from puppyhood til his last day. Most of my pets have always been rescues. Brandon was the sweetest dog I have ever known. He loved everyone and everything. Brandon and Kayleigh (you can see her on the 'Kitty Corner' page) were buddies and I could tell she missed him tremendously when he was gone. Brandon had developed a tumor inside his mouth and I had it removed. When it returned a second time several months later I did not want him to endure the pain he was in the first time it was removed. Finally I was left facing the dreadful decision that we must sometimes make regarding the quality of life of our beloved pets. That was the hardest decision of my life and I still cry when I think of it. Brandon has been gone since the year 2000, but even today, not a day passes that I don't think of him. Because Brandon is so special to me, I wanted to devote a page on my website just for him. Six months before I had to say 'goodbye' to Brandon, I wrote this poem about him. I'd like to share it with you.

I love you Baby Boy and you will always live within my heart. See you at the Rainbow
Bridge someday.

Brandon (Feb. 21, 1985 to Aug. 6, 2000)
I got him when he was only six weeks,
Just a little ball of fur,
That's Brandon, my pekingese,
I thought he'd never quiet down for sure.

Our favorite game was 'Cops & Robbers'
I'd empty the rounds from my gun,
I'd chase him from behind furniture,
For us, it was fun!

Now Brandon is 15,
I long to see him run and jump,
It's hard for him to walk and he can't see,
In my throat, I get a lump.

I hold him in my arms,
Looking into his grey muzzled face,
The little guy still has charm,
But I know he's losing the race.

I know not when the time will come,
For Brandon, my little friend,
Through the years we've shared a lot of love,
And I'll be by his side in the end.

Baby Brandon

This was Brandon at about 6 weeks old.

Brandon's "visit"?

You be the judge.  This picture was taken a few weeks after Brandon left this Earth.  Kayleigh (my cat) was laying in Brandon's favorite spot looking very lonely.  I took a picture of her, and this is what I got back.  Look closely!  Within the mist you can "see" Brandon's eyes, nose and mouth, even the white on his chest is visible.  It even projects a shadow on the wall. I believe in ghosts and I believe that Brandon visited us that day.

ONE MORE CHRISTMAS

(dedicated to Brandon's memory)

One more Christmas with you Is all I prayed for, I knew in my heart It couldn't be more.

I prayed, I hoped and I wished But it wasn't meant to be, God had other plans for you And they didn't include Christmas with me.

Not a day goes by That I don't think of you, You're always on my mind And in my heart too.

I went shopping today I saw dog toys and chews, My eyes filled with tears Because I couldn't buy none for you.

In your favorite spot Stands the Christmas tree, I'll have one more Christmas with you If only in my memory.

In Memory of Killian (April 6, 2006 - March 28, 2007)

Killian was a beauitful red betta fish with flowing bluish fins.  I rescued him almost a year ago from Walmart.  While in the pet department, I noticed that of all the betta fish, his was the only container that has less than an inch of water in it and because the water level was so low, his belly was touching the bottom os his tank and he was forced to stay in that positon, unable to swim at all.  I didn't need a fish, but I felt sorry for him, so I bought him.  I placed him in my 1-1/2 gallon frog tank and get enjoyed the freedom.  About a week ago, I oticed Killian no longer greeting me at the front of the tank at feeding time or at bedtime.  He also began spitting out his food.  I removed him and placed him in a hospital tank so I could medicate him.  Each passing day, he seemed to get more and more lethargic and refused to eat.  Three days ago, I noticed he was puffing out like a pinecone.  I did research and learned that the condition is called "dropsy" and the puffiness is caused from fluid building up inside the fishes body.  I tried giving him a salt bath to draw the fluid out, but nothing I did helped his condition and it seemed to get worse each day.  This morning, his gills appeared swollen and his breathing was very slow, but he was trying to hang in there.  My heart was breaking as I was trying to decide to allow nature to run its course or euthanize my beloved fish.  After crying a sea of tears most of today I finally opted for euthanisia.  Goodbye Killian......you will be missed greatly.

*The picture to the right is Killian flaring at a spider crawling on the outside of his tank.
